Orla Barry, currently in training for the World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic, was in action at the recent Irish Wheelchair Association in Athlone. Orla has been in great form of late, and, already the first Irish female to throw over 20m for the discus from a seated position, she stretched that to 30.48m to set a new Irish and European record. The distance is also just 11 cm short of the world record, which is well in her sights at this stage!
Next year, Orla plans to compete at the World Senior Championships in New Zealand. Orla was also in action at the AAI National T&F Championships in Santry last weekend, where she took part in the wheelchair javelin event. Although the javelin is not her primary discipline, she still finished a creditable second.
