Paul Scanlan 8th in Youth Olympic Trials final

Paul Scanlan was Leevale’s sole representative on the Irish team competing at the European Youth Olympic Trials, which took place in Moscow last weekend. On Friday he ran in the heats of the 400m, and had a fantastic race to finish 3rd in 48.99, just outside his PB. The time was enough for him to get through to Sunday’s final as a fastest qualifier. In the final he went faster again, 48.94 a new outdoor PB for him, and enough for 8th place overall.

In the Long Jump, Castlebar’s Sally-Rose Maughan, who qualified for the Trials at the Leevale Sports, finished 7th in the qualifier rounds. She was unfortunate to miss out on qualification for the final by just two centimetres, with a 5.79m jump that was just outside her PB.
