Several Leevale athletes were in road and cross country action this weekend. On Friday evening, John Shine continued his return to form in the UCC\CIT Floodlit Cross Country with a good 4th place finish in a race won by Ed Murphy. Aisling Gould also finished 4th in the women’s race.
The Flooodlit Cross Country took place after the 2nd Annual Cork Schools Invitational Cross Country, which was a very successful event. A number of Leevale athletes competed for their respective schools. Full results
On Saturday the Clonakilty half and full marathons took place over a tough, undulating course. Leevale’s Donal Coffey, a late entrant to the event after the Waterford Half Marathon was postponed, was very much to the fore throughout, and notched up a great podium finish in 3rd behind Alan O’Shea and Cork Marathon champion, Sergiu Ciobanu. Cosmas De Burca finished 4th in the full marathon, with Leevale’s marathon man, John Hallahan, back in 24th.
On Sunday morning, Leevale had a 1-2 in the annual BHAA 4 mile Turkey Trot race, in aid of the Simon Community. Mark Hanrahan won the event in a canter, with Chris Harrington in a comfortable second.
Also on Sunday, the indoor season got off to an early start for some of Leevale’s Masters athletes, with Joe Nagle and Brian Hayes well to the fore.
