Ciarán Ó Lionáird was in action in the Eastern Regional Preliminaries of the NCAA Championships this weekend. Ciarán has been in great form over the last couple of months and his rich vein of success continued with a double qualification in the 5000m and 10000m. On Thursday he had little difficulty in qualifying from the 10000m, taking the second of the 12 available qualifying positions in a blanket finish. On Saturday he was in action in the 5000m and again took second after running a 55-second last lap, easily qualifying for the finals. “Ciarán looked really, really good”, coach Bob Braman said afterwards, and, with the form he is in, he can surely approach the finals full of hope.
Ciarán will be in action at the NCAA finals in Des Moines, Iowa on 8-11 June.
