Leevale athletes dominate at John Buckley 5K

A huge crowd turned out for tonight’s John Buckley\BHAA 5K road race, held in murky conditions at the Marina circuit. It was a great night for Leevale athletes, with an almost complete domination of the top positions. Lizzie Lee won the women’s race with a new course record of 16:48, just outside her PB. Annette Quaid is rapidly returning to form, and took second in a very strong women’s field.

Five of the top six across the line were Leevale runners; Mark Hanrahan took overall honours, pulling away from the field early on to come home for the win in 14:46. Ryan Creech is another on the comeback from injury, and had his best run in some time in taking second in 15:19. John Shine, who has been in good form recently, was just beaten into 4th by former Cork City Marathon champion, Michael Herlihy. John’s 15:36 kept him just ahead of Thomas Maunsell and Chris Harrington who both ran 15:37. Both John and Chris got PBs on the night.
