Leevale athletes in action at European Team Championships

There were three Leevale athletes in action as part of the Irish team competing at the European Team Championships in Izmir, Turkey this weekend. The Irish team was in the first division this year, and it was always going to be a challenge to maintain their position in that league for next year. In the end, tenth place out of twelve proved just good enough.

Derval O’Rourke got her outdoor season off to a solid start with a 4th place finish in 13.11. The women’s 4x100m relay team, of which Derval was a member, unfortunately dropped the baton and did not finish.

In the men’s 3K, Ciarán Ó Lionáird took 7th for Ireland in 8:13. In the long jump competition, David Quilligan was 11th with 7.05m and certainly not out of his league in top-class European Competition.
