AAI Senior Indoor Results

The AAI Senior Indoor Championships took place this weekend at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast. The AAI Seniors are the highlight of the domestic indoor season.

On Saturday, the first day of the meet, Jessica Sheehan was in action early on in the programme and finished a creditable 7th in the long jump. Her clearance of 5.33 was just 13 cm off the top 4. Later in the evening, Mark Hanrahan competed in the 3K and ran a brave race, taking on eventual winner Mark Christie throughout to eventually take silver in a massive new PB of 8:03.77. Leevale then got its second podium finish of the evening with a great performance and a silver medal for Denis Finnegan in the triple jump.

On day 2, Derval O’Rourke had a comfortable win in the 60m hurdles in 8.21. After the race she said, ““I am happy to have won, my times are not so great but technically I am getting better; I just need to be more aggressive over the hurdles.” There were more medals for Leevale in the women’s sprint events, with Jessica Sheehan taking a great 2nd in the 200m in 25.85. In the 400m, Jessica Neville took bronze with 58.21.
