Ciarán Ó Lionáird finished 6th in a top-class Morton Mile in Santry stadium last night. Even though his time of 3:57 was an improvement over his effort at the Cork City Sports the previous week, afterwards he said that he had run a “poor tactical race”, getting caught in the bunch in the back straight. Still, it is good to see Ciarán heading to London with improving form, and, if his Achilles holds up, should be in action on Friday 3 August in the heats of the 1500m.
In the same race, Mark Hanrahan once again got agonizingly close to the 4-minute barrier, this time only 1 second outside it in 12th place.
