The second leg of the Munster Cross Country Championships took place yesterday at the WIT grounds in Carriganore, Waterford. It has been a hugely successful cross country season so far for Leevale at all levels and the medal tally was added to again yesterday.
Highlights from a Leevale point of view were a great win for the GU9 team, led home by Caitlin Hennessy in 4th, and another team gold in the BU19, where Chris Mintern, Shane Dineen and Philip Crowley packed into 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions. The GU17 took team silver and were led home by Louise Shanahan in 3rd, while the BU11 also took 2nd, Conor Corbett the top Leevale finisher in 11th. Another team silver came from the BU15, Conor O’Driscoll taking 13th in that race. Although he didn’t have a team, Sean Condon ran a great race to take 5th in the BU9.
In the intermediate events, Fionnuala Desmond finished 3rd in the women’s race while Colm Sheahan also got an individual bronze in the men’s. The intermediate men’s team took yet another team silver to make it a great day all round for Leevale.
Meanwhile, Carmel Parnell, who is no stranger to cross country success, was in action at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country international at Belfast yesterday and notched up yet another success, taking gold in the F55 category.
