The Munster Novice, U23, & Juvenile Even Age Cross Country took place at Beaufort, Co. Kerry yesterday. It was a lovely day with a fine course. In the BU10 we had 6 fine young athletes. Billy Carberry was first home for us and the rest of the team ran very well. Kaitlyn Coffey, Emily Murphy and Cliona Hallahan had great races in the GU12, with Kaitlyn finishing a gallant 3rd. We had a good team in the BU12 with Riain Brennan leading Leevale home. Conor O’Driscoll led us home in the BU14 in 9th position, with Timmie Hennessy, Cillian Desmond and Darragh Lankford making up the team that won bronze medals.
Louise Shanahan produced a David Rudisha-like kick to claim gold in the GU16 with newcomer Karen Twomey in 14th position. Luke Horgan led the BU16 home in 5th position. We had 9 finishers in the race and finished 4th in the team standings with 72 points, just 7 points off gold medal position. Sophie Collins ran very well in the GU18, while in the BU18 Shane Dineen finished 8th and would undoubtedly have been higher up had he not fallen during the race. The BU18 did very well to win silver.
In the novice women’s race, Carol Finn won the gold medal and led Cork to victory in the inter-county competition. In the men’s, Colm Sheehan led Leevale to victory in 2nd position, with Eric Curran not far behind in 4th, John O’Connell 18th, and Brian Hegarty 22nd.
