Day 1 of the Munster U14-U19 indoor championships were held in Nenagh today, Saturday March 3rd.
Championship Best Performances (CBPs) were set by Jessica Sheehan in the GU19 triple jump and by Jack Murphy in the BU15 high jump. Jessica jumped 11.29 m while Jack jumped 1.72m, beating the old CBP of 23 years standing. Jessica also went on to take bronze in the 200m.
Kate Waterman, in her first individual championships finished a very strong third in the GU18 200m
Gold medals were also won by Louise Shanahan in the U16 800m and Jack Murphy in the 60m hurdles.
Marie O’Halloran made a great return to competition with a silver in the U16 60m. Laura McCarthy also made the 60m final and the 200m final. Laura was unlucky to be edged out of the medals in the 200m after a courageous performance.
In the U17 age group, Emma O’Brien showed a great return to form by winning the 60m and finishing second in the 200m.
There was silver for Sean O’Callaghan in the U15 high jump, showing great potential for the season ahead.
Roisín McDonnell & Máiréad Creedon were finalists in the U14 60m.
Laura Murphy was 3rd in the U15 long jump. Laura was also a finalist in the U15 60m as was Chelsea Wright.
Day 2
There were more CBPs for Leevale with Luke Ring and Sean O’Callaghan providing sterling performances in the U15 60 sprint, finishing 1st and 2nd, both inside the existing record.
There was another gold for Jessica Sheehan in the U19 long jump, displaying some very impressive technique. In the GU18 long jump Lydia O’Connor took third place.
Luke Hickey and Ryan Casey had impressive performances to take gold in the U19 walk and triple jump respectively.
In the U16 60m hurdles, Marie O’Halloran added to her tally with another silver.
Middle distance races are often tactically difficult and the U15 800m was no exception. Matthew Murnane had to contend with a very fast finish after a moderately paced first half, and produced a well earned silver.
Philip Crowley also won silver in the U19 800m.
This was an excellent championships for the club; well done to all the athletes who took part.
