Luke Hickey’s form has been improving in the race-walking equivalent of leaps and bounds in recent months, thanks no doubt to the coaching expertise of Robert Heffernan. While Robert had to withdraw from the 30K Championship event in Claremorris today, Luke was in action in the Open 10K event and had a great win with a 30 second margin over 2nd-placer Evan Lynch of Clonmel. Luke’s time is good enough to qualify for the Junior event at the World Race Walking Cup, which will be held in Saransk, Russia on 12-13 May next.
Luke progress over the past few months is a credit both to himself and to his coach. Rob also hopes to be in action on the same day in Saransk in the senior event.
