Seven medals for Leevale on Day 1 of Nationals

There was no shortage of silverware for the Leevale athletes that travelled to Santry for the AAI National Senior T&F Championships. A total of 7 medals, two of them gold, were won today, day 1 of the championships.

There was a massive PB of 15.55 for Denis Finnegan in winning gold in the triple jump. In fact, he broke his old PB on 5 out of his 6 jumps! Gold was also won by Michelle Finn in the 3K steeplechase, comfortably taking the title by a margin of almost 30 secs. Dave Tierney won Leevale’s third gold medal of the day, with a 4.50m clearance in the 56lb for height event. For good measure, he also took 4th in the shot with a throw of 13.68m.

The men’s relay team took silver  behind Raheny in their 4x100m. Bronze medals were won by Deirdre Murphy in the discus and Lizzie Lee in the 5K, while the women’s 4x100m relay team also took bronze.

Day 2 of the championships takes place tomorrow.
