There were great wins for Dennis Finnegan (TJ), Michelle Finn (3K S/C) and Dave Tierney (56lb WfH) on day 1 of the AAI National Senior T&F Championships. Dennis won by over 50cm from his nearest rival, while Michelle’s win was just as comfortable with over a minute to spare. Dave also won a second medal, bronze in the shot and Deirdre Murphy, who returned from the US for the championships, finished second in the discus.
On day 2 torrential downpours played havoc with many of the events. Luke Hickey finished a fine 2nd to Brendan Boyce in the walk, setting a new PB of 43:34 in the process. David Quilligan was another to win silver in a tight finish in the long jump where just 10cm separated the top 4. Ailis McSweeney also won silver in the rain, beaten in the 100m only by Kelly Proper who won 4 golds on the day. Claire McSweeney and Michelle Finn took silver and bronze in the 1500m, a race won in a canter by Laura Crowe. Jessica Sheehan had a good 4th in the triple, while Brian Hayes and Pat Moore were 4th and 5th in the javelin.
