A total of 22 Leevale athletes competed as part of the record turnout of 600+ runners at last night’s Ballyandreen 5 miler. The race was the first of this summer’s Ballycotton summer series, though the weather was far from summery, as the athletes had to contend with a cold, stiff wind throughout.
Donal Coffey was first Leevale athlete across the line in 4th place. Donal has shown good form in training and transferred some of that to the road last night as he finished a little over a minute behind winner Sean McGrath in 27:04. With Cillian Ó Tuama 8th, Rob Patterson 9th, Leevale finished 2nd in the team competition, just two points behind the ‘Barrs. John O’Connell was next home and once again Leevale athletes packed well with no fewer than 8 athletes in the top 20.
There were some good category wins for Leevale too: Helen Leonard in the F40, Ann Moore F45, John Collins M55, and the evergreen John O’Leary in the M70.
