The National Indoor Combined Event Championships will take place in Athlone on Saturday, 11 Jan 2014. The competition is a pentathalon which means that each athlete competes in 5 events:
- 60m Hurdles
- Long jump
- High jump
- Shot
- 800m
Points are awarded based on how well the athlete performs in each event. The competition is for juvenile athletes at age group U14 and above (i.e. born in 2001 or earlier). Pentathalons provide a great opportunity to try your hand at a variety of events. Several current Irish international athletes started out as high jumpers only to find later on that they were world-class over 800m and 400m hurdles. It is important, therefore, for juvenile athletes to take a gamble and try different events. More importantly, it is fun.
The club is keen to prepare juvenile athletes for this competition. Interested athletes please contact Denis Murphy on 086-3872986, Michelle White or Eilís Ní Fhaoláin.
