National Senior Indoor Championships Results

The National Senior Indoor Championships started well for Leevale athletes. Luke Hickey, competing in the 5K walk, set a new national junior indoor record of 20:56.55. This is Luke’s third consecutive PB this year. His coach and mentor Robbie Heffernan won his 15th consecutive title in the same event.

Lizzie Lee added to her European Cross Country success by winning the women’s 3000m title in a time of 9:45.63, taking a massive 8 seconds off her PB.

Unfortunately Derval O’Rourke had to witheaw through injury and Ailis McSweeney, having won her 60m semi-final, was disqualified in the final as was the prerace favourite Amy Foster

Leevale came away with 5 medals in total:
1 gold: Lizzie Lee in the 3000m
2 silver: Dave Tierney in the shot and David Quilligan in the long jump
2 bronze: Mark Hanrahan in the 3000m and Edmond O’Halloran in the 60m hurdles
