The course at Waterford IT provided a tough challenge for all the athletes competing at the Woodie’s DIY Novice and Uneven age group cross country championships today. Leevale had a strong contingent of athletes participate in the junior & novice events.
There were team third place medals for Leevale in the Novice Men, Novice Women and the BU17 races.
In the BU17 race Luke Horgan led the Leevale team to 3th place overall; Leevale actually had the same points as the second team DSD, but lost out to on count back.
Leevale Team: Luke Horgan 16th , Peter Fagan 30th , Billy Mulcahy 43rd & David Fox 52nd. Luke was also a member of the winning Munster team and Luke, Peter & Billy were all scoring members of the second-placed Cork team.
In the BU19 race Conor Walter ran well to finish in 16th place, ensuring he was a scoring member of both the Cork & Munster teams which both finished second.
In BU15 Conor O’Driscoll & Charlie O’Donovan were scoring members of the second placed Munster team with 18th & 20th placed finishes respectively.
Louise Shanahan ran a strong race to finish 4th in the GU17 race. She was a leading member of the 3rd place Munster & Cork teams.
Evan Buckley was the sole Leevale athlete competing in the BU11 race. Evan finished 37th and was a scoring memeber of the Cork team which won bronze.
Ben Thistlewood finished 5th in the Novice men’s race, leading the Leevale team to 3rd place. Scoring members were Tim Twomey 25th, Josh O’Sullivan-Houirihane 29th & Brian Carr 80th. The first three Leevale athletes home also scored on the 2nd placed Cork team.
Leevale women were third in the Novice Women race with Carol Finn 11th, Aisling Moran 13th, Rosaleen MacKeown 47th & Fionnuala Desmond 53rd.
