Leevale youth & junior athletes should note that Athletics Ireland has announced the release of the 2015 EYOF, European Junior, and IAAF World Youth Championship selection policies. Athletes should review this with their coaches.
The selection philosophies and performance standards are consistent with our high performance framework. Athletics Ireland will only consider athletes under 18 years of age to be eligible to compete in one major championship during the 2015 season.
Due to the geographic location of the World Youth Championships (athletes born 1998/1999) and given the regional opportunities available through the EYOF (athletes born 1999/2000) and European Junior Championships (athletes born 1996/1997/1998), Athletics Ireland believes that these competitions will present a better development opportunity for athletes and coaches to be connected with a larger team.
While the performance standards for the World Youth championships have been set to allow selection of Irelands best athletes who have the ability to compete with the world’s best youth athletes, the performance standards for the EYOF and European Junior championships have been set to allow more athletes the opportunities to compete regionally.
Further information regarding these competitions can be directed to Jacqui Freyne, Junior High Performance Manager.
