The Christmas period has been busy with the usual hectic schedule of road races. Following the Goal Mile events on Christmas day, the next big events were the 4 miler at Belgooly and the Farranfore 5K. At the latter event, the actual distance covered was 5.65K, and Carol Finn finished 2nd in the ladies’ race, Anthony Mannix 2nd in the men’s. The standard at Belgooly was exceptionally high, and the overall honours were taken by Bryan Keane, who had a substantial margin to spare with his winning 19:43. Eric Curran finished 4th and Andrew Sheehan 8th.
On Sunday 28th, the big event in Cork was the Togher 5K. It got a big turnout and some fast times. Sinéad O’Connor and Andrea Bickerdike finished 2nd and 3rd in the ladies’ event. Ciarán Lane and John Shine were 3rd and 5th in the men’s and John Collins and John O’Leary won the M55 and M70 categories.
