Leevale Athletes shine at GloHealth Cross Country Championships

It was another great day for Leevale athletes at the GloHealth Cross Country Championships which were held today in Dundalk.

In the boys U16 race Charlie O’Donovan had a superb run to finished in 8th place, securing international selection for the Celtics in doing so. The Leevale team finished just outside the medals in 4th place.

Rhona Pierce lead the Leevale GU18 team to gold when she finished third. The Leevale team made up of Rhona Pierce (3rd), Meave Ahern (13th), Louise Shanahan (15th), Karen Twomey (21st) & Edith Finn further medaled as members of the County team which was 2nd  &  the provencal team in 3rd. Rhona has secured international selection on the junior team for the upcoming European Championships.

In the Boys U18 race there were top 10 finishes for David Fox & Luke Horgan. David was 6th & Luke was 8th

Michelle Finn had a superb run in the Senior women’s race to finish second to Fionnuala Britton and ahead of her training partner Laura Crowe who finished 3rd. Michelle & Laura will both be on the Irish team for the European Championships.

Mark Hanrahan finished second in the senior men’s race leading the Cork team to 2nd which included Leevale teammates Colm Sheahan, Tim Twomey & Barry Donovan. Mark will be a leading member of the Irish team for the European Championships.
