HISTORY OF CLONLIFFE HARRIERS
My name is Dominic Branigan and I have been a member of Clonliffe since 1967. I have recently published a history of Clonliffe Harriers which is Ireland’s oldest and most successful AC. It has been produced with the full approval of the club committee and members. The Hardback book contains over 250 pages and includes over 150 photos covering all generations of our history from 1886 to 2013. Among the items covered are details of the founding fathers and the early victories in the late 19th and early 20th century. Also included are pen pics of our 25 Olympians as well as details of the founding of the ladies section in 1963 and the difficulties experienced by them in their first decade due to the attitude towards women in sport. The book also contains what is probably the most comprehensive compilation of club statistics of any club in Ireland. It includes lists of every Clonliffe National champion (team and Individual) since our first Irish title was won in 1892. Many of our great battles in the 1970s and 1980s were fought with Leevale and I feel sure there are more than a few of your present and former members who would be interested in this important Irish Athletic History. Copies, at €25 (incs P&P) can be purchased directly from me at dombran@eircom.net or Tel 086-602-8058.
