Michelle Finn had a breakthrough performance today as she finished 23rd in the senior women’s race at the European Cross Country Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria. Running on a tough course that was more for the cross-country die-hards than the track specialists, Michelle was third Irish woman home, behind Fionnuala Britton (6th) and Sara Treacy (12th). The team also included Annmarie McGlynn, Siobhán O’Doherty, and Laura Crowe.
In the senior men’s race, Mark Hanrahan finished 53rd overall, while in the junior women’s race Rhona Pierce had a fine run in her international debut. She went out very positively, and finished 43rd overall, second scorer on the Irish team that finished 10th. Rhona has three more seasons at junior level, this gives her lots of time to make her mark on this event.
