The 2015 Cork City Marathon was held this morning in atrocious conditions, the runners having to face into driving rain and gale force winds almost from the off. Nollaigh O’Neill showed that she can perform in any conditions as she took the overall win in 2:58. This was a great win for Nollaigh, who has been in fantastic form this year.
In the men’s race, Brian Hegarty had a stormer, 3rd overall in 2:32. Owen Casey was next Leevale man home, just a couple of minutes back in 2:34. In the half, Chris Harrington was the first Leevale athlete across the line in 1:12:32.
After many years of trying, the Leevale team finally took the title in the team relay event; the 5-man team comfortably won with 6 mins to spare. The second Leevale team finished 4th, while the ladies’ team were 10th overall in 2:44.
