The third round of this year’s County Cross Country Championships were held yesterday, the Intermediate and Novice ‘B’ events. The venue once again was Carrigadrohid. Donal Coakley is on a fine run of form at the moment and followed up his win in the Novice a couple of weeks ago with a silver medal in the Intermediate race. The result was a reverse of the 1-2 from the Novice, with Donal just getting pipped by the German athlete Lothar Wyroll this time. Chris Mintern is getting back to form and was just behind in 3rd place. With Finbar O’Dwyer and Tomas Kenefick also to the fore, Leevale comfortably took the team title.
The club also had a number of competitors in the Novice B events. Jessica Bruton took a fine win in the ladies’ race, while in the men’s race Mark Walsh took individual silve and led the team to victory. There is great depth in the club’s distance squad now, and is competitive at all levels from Novice B through to Senior.
