The Irish distance medley relay team broke the world record in New York last night – but it wasn’t enough to gain a win at the Armory international.
The Irish team of Ciarán Ó Lionáird, Mark English, Brian Gregan and Declan Murray finished with a time of 9:25.37, beating the previous record of 9:25.97 set in 2008.
Ciarán ran a blistering anchor leg, chasing the USA team down, but the lead was too big to overtake. They had to be content with finishing second to the USA however, who finished in a time of 9:19.93.
Great run by all the Leevale men and all the Irish team.
