The big event on the road this weekend was the Newmarket 5K, which always draws a high-quality field. This year was no exception as the top 12 athletes were all home inside 16 minutes. Up front it was a battle between Leevale’s Mark Hanrahan and Ryan Creech. Ryan was in action at the European Cross Country Championships last weekend. On this occasion Mark edged it in 14:24 to Ryan’s 14:30. Michael Pat O’Regan was 11th in 15:48, and the combination won Leevale the team prize.
In the ladies’ race Sinéad O’Connor was 2nd to Laura Crowe and Carol Finn was 4th.
