The AAI National Half Marathon Championships were held in Dublin this morning. In winning the women’s race in 73:27, Lizzie Lee was over a minute faster than when she won the event two years ago, and was 4 minutes ahead of the second-placed athlete. This sets Lizzie up nicely for an attempt at a fast time at the Berlin Marathon next month.
It was a great day for the rest of the Leevale women, as Nollaig O’Neill finished 6th overall and 1st O40, and Helen Leonard was 21st overall and 4th O40. Lizzie, Nollaig and Helen combined to take the overall senior team title in what was another great win for the club at national level.
In the men’s race, Mark Hanrahan battled with the leaders throughout, but in the end had to settle for 4th in 66:02. Chris Harrington was next Leevale finisher, 14th in a respectable 71:41. Donal Coffey was the 3rd man on the team that fnished in a bronze medal position in the senior team competition.
