The Munster Schools T&F Championships were held today at CIT, and as usual there was a high standard on show across the full range of events.
The middle distance races proved very fruitful for Leevale athletes as Louise Shanahan and Rhona Pierce won the senior 800m and 3000m, and Louise, Rhona, and Karen Twomey finished 1-2-3 in the 1500m. Leevale athletes also had a can sweeping the senior boys 2000m steeplechase. Conor O’Driscoll was a very impressive winner of the inter 800m, running a solo 1:56 to decimate the field. In the intermediate mile race, Charlie O’Donovan set a meet record with his win in 4:29. In the senior grade, David Fox led all the way in the 5K to romp home in 15:51, and Luke Horgan prevailed in a bunched sprint finish in the 1500m. Matt Murnane finished a good 3rd in the senior 800m, and Alvaro Cubillo (2nd, inter steeplechase) and Alannah Neff (3rd, junior 1500m), Katelyn Coffey (2nd in minor girls 800m) were other Leevale athletes who won medals for their schools.
In the senior 400mH, Dan O’Mahony had a fine win, and Conor Morey had a good 3rd in the junior 100m. In the field, there were slivers for Padraig O’Callaghan (junior hammer), Des Kelleher (inter high jump), Andre Christie (senior hammer), and Hannah Murphy (junior high jump).
