Lizzie Lee competed in the SPAR Great Ireland Run which also incorporated the national 10K championships. The event was held in blustery conditions in Dublin’s Phoenix Park on Saturday, 11th of April with thousands of runners completing the tough 10 kilometre course.
Lizzie, just back from a calf injury, put in a blistering performance to finish second to Fionnuala Britton in the national 10k championships in a time of 34:18.
Lizzie has put herself in prime spot for selection for the European Cup (10K) in June.
Leevale men’s took gold from Rathfarnham with Mark Hanrahan 5th, Colm Sheahan 6th, John Shine 16th & John O’Connell 28th.
On Friday Lizzie was presented with the Cork City Sports athlete of the month award for February for her performance in the Barcelona International Half Marathon where she finished a very creditable second to Kenyan athlete Florance Kiplagat who set a new women’s world record for the distance.
