Leevale athletes were in action across Europe over the weekend.
Louise Shanahan travelled to Belfast on Saturday to compete in 800m at the IMC meet. In a loaded field Louise ran a strong race to finish in a season’s best 2:09.01, achieving the standard for the European Junior Championships.
Michelle Finn travelled to the IFAM meet in Belgium to compete in her first 3K steeplechase race of the year. In a field of 26 international athletes, Michelle finished in 4th place, just 4 seconds outside the Olympic qualifying standard.
Meantime there was disappointment for Ciarán Ó Lionard and Sam Healy. Ciarán, who is going well in training, had a below par performance the 1500m in Hengelo finishing in a time of 3:53.47. Sam Healy travelled to the IFAM meet to compete in the long jump and 100m hurdles, but he was bitterly disappointed when he had to withdraw from competition with a strained hamstring.
