Lizzie Lee was in action over the weekend in the New York Road Runners Mini 10K event. She was one of a large field of athletes from around the world invited to compete in the top-class event. The race was won by Kenya’s Jemima Sumgong, and Lizzie had an excellent run to finish in 13th place in 33:49, the first European athlete across the line. This is a great result for Lizzie who continues her preparation for the marathon at the Rio Olympics.
Also Stateside, Ben Thistlewood ran a new 5K PB at the Portland Track Festival in Oregon on Saturday. He is now looking forward to competing at the Cork City Sports later this month.
Other athletes from the Leevale distance group were in action locally over the past few days. On Thursday, Anthony Mannix and Sinead O’Connor were the winners of a 5K in Ballincollig.
Also on Thursday, Darragh Canavan was 3rd in the BHAA 6K.
