Leevale Lizzie Lee was the only Irish competitor in Saturday’s World Half-Marathon Championships in Cardiff. The race was held in horrendous conditions and Lizzie competed bravely, finishing a creditable 52nd in 75:36. The men’s race saw a good team performance from the Irish, as Paul Pollock finished 14th overall, leading the team home to 8th. Leevale athlete Conor McCauley also competed, finishing in a good 74:54.
Leevale athletes also featured prominently in road races at home this weekend. James Grufferty was the winner of the 10K in Kenmare from Dave Comber in second. On Good Friday, Stephen Young won the 5 miler in Killarney, and on Easter Monday Michelle and Carol Finn finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the Boherbue-Kiskeam 4 miles.
