Leevale Lizzie Lee was the only Irish competitor in Saturday’s World Half-Marathon Championships in Cardiff. The race was held in horrendous conditions and Lizzie competed bravely, finishing a creditable 52nd in 75:36. The men’s race saw a good team performance from the Irish, as Paul Pollock finished 14th overall, leading the team home to 8th. Leevale athlete Conor McCauley also competed, finishing in a good 74:54.
Leevale athletes also featured prominently in road races at home this weekend. James Grufferty was the winner of the 10K in Kenmare from Dave Comber in second. Padraig Ó Dubhgáin won a 4 miler in Banna, North Kerry. On Good Friday, Stephen Young won the 5 miler in Killarney, and on Easter Monday Michelle and Carol Finn finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the Boherbue-Kiskeam 4 miles.
