Munster U9-U13 championships Ennis 28/29th May 2016

Leevale athletes were in fantastic form at the Munster U9-13 juvenile championships which took place in glorious weather in Ennis over the weekend. In a competition of the highest standard Leevale took a total of 14 Munster titles which included 4 championship best performances. There were 13 other placings, with others finishing just outside the medal positions. All performed excellently with personal bests set all round. Once again developing Leevale athletes produced quality performances across the sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, throws and sprint relays.
The star athlete of the championship was Kyle Ettoh who produced a high quality triple, winning the high jump, long jump and 60m titles. The performance of the championships was Kyle’s championship best performance (CBP) of 1.47m in the high jump where Kyle added a remarkable 5cm to the record of 1.42m held by Kieran Mills since 1978. Kyle also had quality victories in the long jump and the 60m sprint where he was just 0.01sec off the CBP.
Jessica Lyne continued to rewrite the record books with a superb new championship best performance of 1.42m when breaking Sophie Merediths record to win the girls U12 high jump.
Daniela Puspurs dominated the girls U9 turbo javelin. Her throw of 15.13m smashed the championship best performance by an incredible 4m. Daniela combined with Ella Dinan to also win the 2x javelin team event.
Harry Nevin was in top form when winning the U13 60m hurdles and finishing 2nd in both the 80m sprint and long jump.
Ella Scott raced superbly to finish a very close 2nd in the 60m hurdles in a fine time of 9.86s. Ella followed this with a joint 2nd place in the 80m sprint.
The boys U9 were in great form. Oscar Naughton set a CBP when winning the boys U9 turbo javelin with a throw of 19.11m, adding almost 4m to the existing record. He partnered with Ouzu Backari to finish 2nd in the 2x javelin team event. Daniel Murphy won the individual 60m sprint and combined with Cian Power for gold in the 2x 60m team event. Daniel also combined with Daniel Horgan to finish 2nd on the 2x LJ team event. Mikey Scott and Cian Power joined forces to finish 3rd in the 2x 300m team event.
Okwu Backari finished 2nd in the girls U11 individual long jump and joined with Lucie Healy for 2nd in the 2x LJ team event.
Nicole Dinan was 3rd in the U11 individual 600m and partnered with Fatima Amusa to win the 2x 600m team event. Earlier Simone Looney and Sarah Barry combined for 3rd place in the girls U10 2x 500m event.
Leevale were very prominent in the sprint relay finals. The boys U9 team of Anthony Goggin, Mikey Scott, Cian Power and Daniel Horgan won with lots to spare. The boys U12 team of James Burke, Conor O’Sullivan, John Cashman and Kyle Ettoh won a close battle with Midleton. The girls U13 team of Ella Scott, Caitlin Hennessy, Ciara O’Mahony and Kate Long were also victorious. There was silver for the girls U12 team of Lily Horgan, Jessica Lyne, Nicole Clarke and Aine Power and silver also for the girls U11 team of Nicole Dinan, Okwu Backari, Lucie Healy and Fatima Amusa. The boys U13 sprint relay team of Conor Callinan, Sean Condon, Alex Ademola and Harry Nevin finished 3rd.
