Last night saw two road races being held in Cork. In Shanagarry, the second race of the Ballycotton Summer Series was held. Mark Hanrahan came home well ahead of the field, his 24:28 the fastest time in the annual Shanagarry event in 25 years. Rosaleen McKeown also had a good run to finish 2nd in the women’s event.
There was also a big turnout for the Daniel Kingston 5K race in Macroom where Andrew Sheehan was 2nd man home and Andrea Bickerdike was also second in the women’s race.
On Friday evening local man John O’Connell finished 2nd in the Milstreet 5 miler and Niamh Roe also finished 2nd.
At the same time on Friday, the Courtmacsherry 10K was taking place, where Eric Curran ran out the impressive winner, his attempt at a course record foiled by a strong head wind for the first half of the race.
On Saturday Cillian O Tuama was 3rd in the Allihies 5 miler.
