There were strong performance from Leevale athletes at the AAI Junior & U23 Track & Field Championships.
In the U23 events Sam Healy won the long jump with 7.22m. Louise Shanahan had an impressive win in the 800m. Daniel O’Mahony had a very gutsy run from lane 8 in the 400m hurdles, taking a decisive victory.
In the junior events Charlie O’Donovan won a tactical 1500m where three athletes were vying for selection for the European Junior Championships. Andre Christie took bronze in the hammer with Padraig O’Callaghan finishing 4th. James Mintern finished 3rd in the steeplechase.
EYOF-bound athletes Colin Doyle and Conor Morey competed in their first AAI junior championships, Conor in the 100m & Colin in the 200m. Both athletes quaffed for the final and mixed it well with the older athletes.
The mens 4x400m relay team finished the day off with a victory.
