Leevale middle distance athlete, Charlie O’Donovan has announced that he has signed for Villanova university. In the autumn of 2018 he will head off to join Marcus O’Sullivan, who’s is the director and head coach of the men’s cross country and track & field teams.
He will follow the path of some great Leevale athletes when he heads to Pennsylvania, USA: Donie Walsh, Marcus O’Sullivan, Ken Nason, Paul Carroll, Oisin Crowley, John Hunter, Aidan O’Regan and Paul O’Regan.
Other great Irish athletes who have gone to Villanova include Sonia O’Sullivan, Eamon Coughlan, Ronnie Delaney and John Hartnett.
Charlie states ‘ I am excited and proud to announce that I have signed for Villanova University. It’s a dream come true and I have so many people to thank for getting me there especially my coach Ken Nason, my parents, everyone at my club Leevale AC and school Colaiste Chriost Ri. I am looking forward to taking both my academics and athletics to the next level and working with a top class team and coaching Staff.
We are very happy for Charlie, his coach Ken Nason, his parents Reynolds and Michelle and their families. We know that Charlie will succeed wherever he goes, but we are particularly proud to be handing him over to Leevale 4 time Olympian and world champion, Marcus O’Sullivan, he will be in the best of hands.
