Cork City Marathon

The move to a Sunday race proved popular with athletes with over 7,500 participants taking to the streets of Cork. 

In near perfect conditions,  the first female over the line, taking her first Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon win was Cork local Jill Hodgins in a time of 2:48:18.  Jill took a strong lead right from the start, coming home home ahead of reigning back-to-back female winner, Nollaig Hunter, 03:02:28. 

Claire McCarthy continued her preparations for London with a strong win in the half marathon in a time of 1:16:34. 

In the men’s relay event Leevale Lads took victory in 2:21:32 with  Leevale Legends coming home third in 2:33:30.  In the Women’s relay Leevale women also took victory. 

Finbarr O’Dwyer ran a super marathon to cross the line in 15h place in a time of 02:44:09. He was followed by sub 3 hour men, Donal Coakley (26th) 02:49:04 and Marco Petrassi (27th) 02:49:18.
