Leevale athletes were in good form at Day 1 of the Munster U9-13 championships held in a blustery Ennis on Saturday.
Jessica Lyne was well clear of the field in the girls U13 60m hurdles, winning in an impressive 10.07s. Jessica followed this up with victory in the javelin with a big personal best throw of 26.07m.
Kyle Ettoh was another multiple winner on day 1 with comfortable victories in both the high jump (1.51m) and long jump (4.62m). Kyle also finished 2nd in the 80m sprint, just missing gold in a photo finish.
Fatima Amuso was an impressive 2nd in a top quality girls U12 60m final in which Okwi Backari was just outside the medals in a blanket finish. Fatima produced a storming anchor leg of the 4x100m to bring the Leevale team home in a close second place.
Abby Moynihan was another javelin medalist, taking 3rd place in the girls U11 turbo javelin with a throw of 17.31m.
In the U11 girls, Simone Looney won her 600m heat impressively and combined with Katie Twomey to finish just outside the medals in the team event. Also in the U11 girls Natalia Golka and Sarah Barry combined in the 60m and LJ teams to finish just outside the medals.
