There were great performances from a young Leevale junior squad over the weekend at the European Junior Club Championships.
The team scored 77 points, (2 more than last year).
Charlie O’Donovan was in impressive winner in the 3000m. Competing in his first 3K, Charlie took control on lap 3 and pulled away from the rest of the field, winning the race in decisive fashion, earning maximum 10 points.
Matt Murnane ran a tactically astute 800m race to finish 2nd to France. 8 more points for the team.
Andre Christie threw 46.34m in the hammer, finishing 4th, earning 7 valuable points. Andre earned a further 2 points in the shot putt.
The 4x100m relay team of Ryan O Leary, Colin Doyle, Daniel Okoh & Colin Doyle earned 7 points by finishing 4th. This was matched by the 4x400m team of Ryan O’Leary, Sean O’Callaghan, Matt Murnane & Conor O’Driscoll who also finished 4th with 7 more points.
Overall this was a great experience for the young team, who will have the opportunity to do it all over again in 2018, as we have just been informed that Leevale are the winners of the AI junior men’s club team 2017. Making this a hat-trick of junior wins for the club and our 4th European Club Competition in consecutive years.
