There were biting cold and blustery conditions at the Irish Life Health Munster Schools Cross Country Championships at the WIT Sportsgrounds in Carriganore on Friday February 23rd.
Charlie O’Donovan (Coláiste Chriost Rí) finished second to Darragh McElhinney (Pobalscoil Bheanntraí) in the senior boys 6000m. Frank O’Brien (Midleton CBS) made up ground at the end to finish third. Charlie had the consolation of leading Coláiste Chriost Rí to the team title with Jack O’Connor (13), James Mintern 22nd and James Allen 23rd.
Tommy Connolly (CBC Cork) won the intermediate boys’ 4500m in convincing fashion.
In the senior girls Alannah Neff (Carrigaline Community School) ran a strong race to finish just outside a podium place in 4th. Also in the senior girls race, Emma Bickerdike finished 11th and Maedhbh Moynihan 13th, both qualifying for the All-Irelands.
