There was gold, silver and bronze for Leevale the Athletics Ireland Senior Indoor Championships. Alex Wright was the clear winner of the men’s 5K race walk in 18:53.87. Alex is displaying great form so far this year and looks every bit a top international race walker.
Michelle Finn, a seasoned international athlete, ran a tactical 3000m to finish second to the in-form Ciara Mageean.
Conor Morey looked strong winning his heat of the men’s 60m in an amazing time of 6.92. Kaodi Ogbene has also qualified for the semifinal by finishing 3rd in his heat with 7.07.
Conor lined up in the 200m heats later in the day, he won his heat in impressive style in a time of 21.99, qualifying him for the final on Sunday. Conor ran a superb race to take bronze in the Senior Men’s 200m final today. This is a fantastic achievement for this young athlete, respect to his coach Derek Coffey, who is bringing his sprint group through to senior level.
Shona Lowe has qualified for the 200m final by finishing 3rd in her heat is a time of 26.12. In the final Shona crossed the line 5th.
Louise Shanahan comfortably qualified for the 800m final, when she finished a controlled 3rd in the heat. On Sunday she finished 5th in the final.
Joan Healy easily came through the 60m heats on Saturday. On Sunday she finished second in her semifinal to automatically qualify for the final, where she finished just used the medals in 4th place.
Wymin Sivakumar jumped 13.75m in the senior men’s triple jump to finish in 5th place, an excellent achievement for the young athlete.
