With the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun just around the corner, Leevale elite athletes are focused on qualifying and preparing for the meet.
On Saturday 13th, Louise Shanahan, 800m specialist, competed at the Bryggen Sports Invitational in Manchester, where she ran a superb 2:03.52, which is an European Indoor qualification time for the 800m. Louise joins Nadia Power and Iseult O’Donnell in achieving the qualifying standard for the 800m.
Michelle Finn has been burning up the track on the continent with a series of fine performances, topped with a 3000m PB of 9:02.34 at the Normandy League meet at the Jesse Owens Stadium, in Val de Reuil. This gives Michelle the 3K qualifying standard.
Meanwhile in the US, Ciaran O’Lionard is back in serious training with a view to representing Ireland once more on the international stage. There is no doubt about Ciaran’s ability and dedication; we are eagerly follow his progress. Ciaran has also just penned a book with John Jefferson, aptly named ‘Not Dead Yet”. Leevale sprinters Joan Healy and Conor Morey have been invited to participate Athletics Ireland Indoor Micro Meet next weekend. The meet is designed with a view to providing Ireland’s elite athletes with an opportunity to qualify for the European Indoor Championships.
