Lizzie Lee smashed the qualifying standard for the European 10,000m Cup at the Athletics Ireland Micro-Meet held at MTU track on Saturday. In conditions which were less than ideal, Lizzie ran 34:14.=.26 for the 10K, almost 8 seconds inside the qualifying time for the European 10,000m Cup which will be held in Birmingham on 5 June. Lizzie was helped in the early stages by pace maker club-mates, Carol Finn and Niamh Moore.
Other Leevale athletes in action today were, Ryan Creech in the 10K, Annette Quaid 800m women, Tommy Connolly 800m men, Colin Doyle 200m, Conor Morey 100m, Niamh McCarthy Discus, Conor Callinan, Una Brice and Una Samuels in the pole vault.
Thanks to Athletics Ireland, Sport Ireland and MTU for facilitating the micro meet today and all the local officials who turned out in force to host a professional sports meet.
