In late August Jane Buckley travelled to the USA to take up a Scholarship at Providence College. Within four weeks of landing, she finished 7th in a stacked field in her first college cross country race in 19.40.
Now after only 10 weeks stateside Jane has won the Big East XC championships. Notably she is the 1st ever freshman in Providence history to win the BIG East and she is the 2nd ever Freshman in history to win the event, the first being in 1982.
Jane has a tune up race this Friday in the regionals with eyes on the NCAA Nationals the following week. Her superb performances puts her in strong contention for selection for the Irish U20 cross country team for the Spar European Cross Country Championships which will be held in Turin, Italy on December 11th.
