What a week it has been for Leevale at both national and international events.
A big congratulations to Annette Quaid and Michelle Kenny for bringing home 5 medals from the World Masters in Torun, Poland. Annette took gold in the W45 400m & 800m and silver in 200m. Michelle took bronze in the W40 cross country and secured a gold medal for Team Ireland. Well done ladies for keeping the club colours flying.
The National Juvenile Indoors took place in Athlone at the weekend. Congratulations to every athlete that has participated over all the championships; we are all so proud of you. To be competing at this level is a massive achievement and should not be forgotten. There were some outstanding performances by athletes over the course of the championships which leaves the club in no doubt as to were its going into the future. A special mention to all coaches that make these achievements and events possible. Thank you so much without your voluntary time & input success like the weekend past wouldn’t happen. Well done again to all and we look forward to the outdoor season now.
Also, at the weekend in Athlone the club was presented with the Drifter Cup. This cup is presented by the Athletics Ireland for the best club at national track & field championships. This is our 3rd year in a row winning this accolade and again this would not happen without the dedication and input from athletes and coaches.
An update on the MTU Track works: work is continuing as planned and on schedule. If June turns out to be a good month weather wise, the resurfacing will begin then, and hopefully the track will be up and running for July. I know it has been a massive inconvenience for training but thank you for your patience and improvising for alternative training plans I know it hasn’t been easy.
Keep up the good work everybody and talk to you soon.
