Super Weekend For Leevale Athletes At National Senior T&F Championships

In less than ideal conditions, the contingent of Leevale senior athletes excelled at the national senior T&F championships held in Morton Stadium over the weekend.

Just days after receiving the Cork City Sports Award for June James Ezeonu won his first national senior title by taking victory in the 110m hurdles

Louise Shanahan made it three national titles in a row with a trademark ‘sit and kick’ win in the women’s 800m. A winning time of 2:03.13 ensured Shanahan’s domination of the 800m national title continued, an impressive feat given the strength in depth across Irish 800m running.

Reece Ademola secured gold with a new lifetime best of 7.96 NU23R on his final jump of the day having already posted 7.93 with his opening attempt setting a new national U23 record. Sam Healy took home silver with 7.61m.

It was title number 9 for Michelle Finn as she raced to victory in the 3000m steeple chase. She would later finish 4th in the 5000m.

Michael Healy took victory in the weight for distance and and also won silver in the discus.

In the women’s 100m Lucy May Sleeman crossed the line in second place while her club-mate Joan Healy finished 4th.

Colin Doyle took silver in the 200m, Una Brice silver in the pole vault and Kate Moynihan finished 3rd in the javelin.
