Athletics Ireland has unveiled a formidable contingent of 23 exceptional athletes who will be representing the nation in the eagerly anticipated World Athletics Championships scheduled to take place in Budapest from August 19th to 27th, 2023.
This historic moment marks the largest assembly of Irish athletes ever assembled for a World Athletics Championships. The 23-strong team, with the potential to expand to 26 in the near future, is poised to showcase their prowess on the global stage. They will compete alongside more than 2,000 athletes hailing from 200 nations, all converging at the state-of-the-art National Athletics Stadium in Budapest, boasting a seating capacity of 35,000.
Among these outstanding athletes, Leevale Olympian Louise Shanahan stands as a notable inclusion, geared up to exhibit her talents in the demanding 800m race. Another standout from the club, Michelle Finn, has earned provisional selection for the 3000m steeplechase pending a possible reallocation of a quota slot by World Athletics. This recognition comes on the heels of her achievement of the B standard, underscoring her exceptional skill and dedication.
