Second Place finish for Leevale Women in League Final

Leevale women finished second in National Senior League final on Saturday in Tullamore, scoring a total of 99 points. Even though this was the strongest team fielded by Leevale in some time it was affected by end-of-season injuries that impacted the scoring capability of the team, thus making the second place finish achieved by the competing athletes all the more special.

Ailis McSweeney, in her first competitive run since the European Championships, had a very impressive win in the 100m in 11.75 over Niamh Whelan from Ferrybank, who was second in 12.06. Earlier in the day Ailis and Whelan were involved in a terrific tussle in the 200m with the Cork woman, who was running the event for the first time in two years, just getting ahead to win in 24.28, with Whelan 24.31.

Lizzie Lee, competing in her first National League final, had fantastic second place finished in the 1500m & 300m events.

Clare McSweeney, who is currently home from the US on her off season finished second in the 800m.

Regular guest athlete Sarah Ryan contributed to the results total with a second place finish in the pole vault.

Sophie Heinsch finished third in 100m hurdles and 5th in the Long Jump.

Well done to all the athletes who competed, enjoy the break after a long and successful season and lets plan to go one better next year.
