It was a good day for the Leevale ladies at today’s Cork City Marathon, which were held in ideal conditions: warm, dry, and light winds. It was a 1-2 in the half as Lizzie Lee and Claire McCarthy were in close contention throughout, Lizzie getting the better of the battle in the end. Nollaig O’Neill took 3rd in the full marathon, which was a great performance from her. For good measure, the Leevale Lassies were the first all-female team home in the team relay event. Fionnuala Desmond also had a good run in the full, 9th in 3:19.
In the men’s race the first two Leevale athletes in were US-based: Alan Foolkes in 5th, closely followed by Karl Walsh, son of the great Donie. There was also a PB for marathon stalwart Finbarr O’Dwyer, 18th in 2:50. Finbarr has completed 3 sub 3-hour marathons since last October. Behind him, just outside the 3-hour mark, were Eoin Deasy and Michael Lucey. Colm Moore finished 6th in the half, while it was 2nd again for the men in the team relay event, pipped by 20s by the East Cork team.

Re; Cork City Marathon.
You forgot to mention another great performance from a Leevale runner, i.e. Finbarr O’Dwyer who came home in 18th place on Monday, recording a p.b.time of 2hrs & 50 mins.
That’s 3 sub-3 hour marathon’s since October 2012. Sounds good to me.
